Definition: What is "Alagille Syndrome"?
Alagille syndrome is a disease that affects the heart, liver & other major organs of the body.
Symptoms & Signs
Among the symptoms of this disease are jaundice, malfunctioning of the heart & liver, cholesterol deposits in the skin & butterfly-shaped spinal column. The brain & kidneys may also be affected by the disease. Severe cases show obstruction of the small intestine & the need for liver transplantation.
Treatment: How to Treat "Alagille Syndrome"?
There is no specific treatment yet for the disease. Medications are used to reduce the symptoms of the disease.
Alagille syndrome is an autosomal dominant genetic disorder.
Diagnostic tests can be done by liver biopsy & X-ray findings.
